Sneak Peek – Isobel

Celtic Fae Legend Isobel

Isobel

So far I have written just over 7000 words of Isobel’s story. That’s in about three days of writing so that’s not too bad and today isn’t even finished yet. I was thinking about whether I would give my readers a little snippet of what I’ve written so far or not.  Then I thought, why not. So here it is, but it is only for a limited time, so if you don’t see the post it means that it has expired already. [expcontent display=”before” date=”03/29/2013″]You will need to like the post to unlock it so that you can read it as I have been advised not to leave this post open to everyone.

Isobel felt light-hearted as she travelled back to the palace. Her girls were truly amazing but she didn’t really feel that she could take a lot of credit for that. She was painfully aware that she had been absent a lot of the time in the last ten years. She was grateful to Isolde for being there for her girls. Her mother had been a good influence on the girls.

She almost skipped up the palace steps and as she burst through the doors she ran smack bang into a brick hard body. She felt two iron arms wrap around her to prevent her from hitting the ground. Heat penetrated her clothes as she was held very close to the person’s hard, muscled chest.

Gathering her senses she placed her palms flat against the person’s chest and pushed herself back a little as looked up at the person she had run into. “I’m so sor… You!” She was disturbed to realize that she had run into the man she had spent the afternoon talking about and thinking about. Drew.

She was disconcerted to realize that her hands were still flat against his chest. She could feel the heat radiating from him into her palms. She pushed firmly on his chest as she quickly untangled herself from his arms and stepped away from him. She felt her heart racing and she found it hard to breathe. He hadn’t said a word and was staring at her with those piercing black eyes.

She started to walk past him as she mumbled, “I have to go.”

She’d walked a few steps when he yelled, “Wait.”

She stopped walking but didn’t turn around. The way she felt when she was around him was starting to scare her a little. She felt him move up closer to her and could feel the heat of his body radiating off him burning along her back.

She slowly turned around to face him. He was more than a little intimidating as he towered over her five foot eight frame. She lifted her head to look into his eyes and felt the impact from them go straight through her as she started to tremble.

“Are you okay?” His voice was laced with concern and she nodded but found it difficult to speak. “I’m sorry if I startled you.” He smiled at her. Not just an ordinary smile but one that lit up his eyes and transformed his face from the harsh warrior into a very handsome man.

Isobel found that her mouth was suddenly dry. She swallowed hard. “No it’s fine you didn’t startle me, I just wasn’t watching where I was going.” She smiled back at him and heard his sharp intake of breath. Perhaps this weird attraction was mutual.

That thought scared Isobel even more and she moved back a few paces to put some much needed distance between them as she was finding difficult to breathe properly. His eyes narrowed but he refrained from saying anything.

“I really need to get going.” Isobel was moving backwards away from him. Drew said nothing but she could see that the annoying smirk was back. Just as she was about to turn and speed away from him he said, “You can keep running Isobel but you can’t hide from this.” She was tempted to ask what he meant by ‘this’ but wasn’t sure she would like the answer.

She turned away from him and walked very quickly away. She heard his annoying laughter following her once again. She stopped in her tracks. She wasn’t normally such a coward so why was she running away from him? His laughter had stopped now. She tensed, waiting for him to catch up to her but when she didn’t feel him near she carefully turned around.

He was still standing where she had left him and he was now standing quietly. He was so still he was almost like a statue. What should she do? Keep running or face up to him and see what this thing was that seemed to be growing between them without any encouragement from her.

Drew’s face was hidden in the shadow and Isobel couldn’t read his expression. They stood staring at each other for a few moments and then Drew moved. Isobel caught her breath at the look of desire in his eyes as he moved closer to her. He stopped directly in front of her. Not touching she didn’t know how long they stood facing each other.

Isobel found that she couldn’t look away from his eyes. They seemed to have mesmerized her. She watched as he lifted an arm and reached out for her but before he could make contact voices coming from down the corridor broke the spell and he abruptly stepped backwards.

With a nod of his head he turned and quickly walked away towards the door. He jerked the door open and quickly slipped through the opening without a backward glance. Now who was running away?

Isobel stood frozen to the spot trying to regain her senses.
